Cora Lee was born October 13, 1926 in Farmersville, Texas, to Lee and Fay Massey. She married J.R. Nixon on July 16, 1944 and they spent their lives educating not only their children, but countless students that they taught through their careers in teaching and academic administration. She is survived by five of her six children: Sherry Gosdin and husband Dick; Dwain Nixon and wife Cherry; Gerald Nixon and wife Rebecca; Benny Nixon and wife Vicki and Bernadine Griffin. In addition, she is survived by her sisters Pat Summers and June Hutson, along with eleven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Cora Lee was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, her parents, her son Lester Nixon and her sister Wanda Hollis.
Cora Lee received her Master’s and undergraduate teaching certificate from Texas Tech University after her six children began school. Her career was started and completed at Cotton Center ISD as an English teacher. For 20-years, she believed in the encouragement of education for her children, but always taught them the most important things in life were God, family and friends. Cora Lee had polio as a child, raised six children, got her education, started her career, lived her faith and taught her children to never give up. Cora Lee was a quiet spoken wife and mother of faith, love and integrity and loved by all who knew her.
The family suggests donations to Oakwood United Methodist Church in lieu of flowers. Condolences and an online guestbook can be found at www.resthavenfuneralhome.com.
