Dick Dean Stephens, 93, of Lubbock, and formerly of Lamesa, passed away Sunday, December 25, 2016. He was born to Ellis and Jennie (Shinn) Stephens in Bell, California in 1923. Dick graduated from Perris Union High School in 1941 and was an outstanding athlete in football and track.
He worked in a defense plant until enlisting in the US Navy in December of 1942. He served three and a half years in the Navy, two years of which were spent aboard the USS Weber, a destroyer escort.
He married Doris Shipp, August 24, 1946 in Riverside, California. They moved to Lamesa in 1948. Dick worked in the parts department and was a bookkeeper for Key Motor Company, a bookkeeper at Cope Sand & Gravel and E.W. Cope Construction Company until retirement in 1995. Dick and Doris moved to Lubbock in 2004.
Survivors include his wife, Doris, of Lubbock, two daughters; Paula and husband Wallace Franklin of Trophy Club, TX, Linda and husband Jimmy Young of Lubbock; grandchildren: Jeff and Shanda Young, Robyn and Brian Neuhoff and Michael Young and great-grandchildren; Madelyn Neuhoff and Carson Young.
