Dominic was born on March 17, 1943 in Rome, Italy, to Edolo and Angelina Caranfa. He came to the United States at the age of 14, and grew up in Steubenville, Ohio. In his high school yearbook, he stated that he wanted to pursue a career in the newspaper industry, which he did soon after high school. His decades of work in operations with newspapers took him to many states, including Alaska, California, Georgia, and finally to the Avalanche Journal in Lubbock, Texas, where he lived for over 50 years.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Libby Eubank, sister Clara Krovocheck, and brother, Joe Caranfa.
He is survived by his son, Rusty (Tiffany) Caranfa, daughter Marty (Ed) McSpadden, son Domie Caranfa, son Jim Caranfa, daughter Taylor (Bryan) Stover, son-in-law Jacob Eubank, and his 10 grandchildren. Dominic is also survived by dozens of lifelong friends, most notably, his closest friends in the "Yacht Club."
Dominic will be remembered for his big personality, and for being the most social man most people have ever met. He will be remembered for his love of golf, traveling the world with friends and family, John Wayne movies, Italian cooking, drinking coffee at Market Street with the "Yacht Club," for his sense of humor and his wisdom.
But mostly, his legacy lies in how deeply he cared for his family and friends, the "loves of his life," and his greatest treasure was spending time with them. His most profound joy was in loving and watching his children and grandchildren grow up.
Like he said on many occasions, "I've been called many names," but his favorites were "Dad," "Grandpa" and "Poppy."
Rest in Peace, #1.
