She leaves son, Glen Howard and his wife Debra; daughter, Sharen Scott and her husband Nick; son-in-law, Paul Compton; son, Dewey Howard and his wife Angela; daughter, Galanell Pamplin and her husband Kim; daughter-in-law, Selina Howard; sixteen grandchildren: Britni Hayes, Nicholas Scott, Valerie Gulen, Briana Campbell, Chase Scott, Valene Stoitzev, Valaina Compton, Kayla Howard, Devan Grundler, Matthew Howard, Madison Pamplin, Xavier Fuentes, Lori Howard, Drake Pamplin, Ashlen Planes, and Sierra Howard; eight great-grandchildren: Nicholas Scott V, Lilia Scott, Colbie Campbell, Madeleine Scott, Zailyn Stewart, Karen Stoitzev, Chayce Campbell, Roni Gulen; and numerous friends.
Jaunell was born October 12, 1931, in Meadow, Texas, to George Dewey Pendergrass and Frances Pauline (Winningham) Pendergrass. She grew up as a young child on her parents’ farm. She attended Elementary School in Meadow. When she was 10 years old, her father died. She and her mother moved to Littlefield, Texas, where she went to school until the eighth grade. Her mother remarried, and the family moved once again, this time to Chillicothe, Texas, to a farm south of town. Jaunell graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1949. During her senior year in High School, Jaunell met Galand Howard, and they married in November 1949. She and her husband lived briefly in Quanah, Texas, and Lubbock, Texas, before eventually moving to Cockrell Hill, Texas, near Dallas. In 1958, they moved their young family to Duncanville, Texas, where they lived until 1985. They purchased a farm outside Ben Wheeler, Texas, and lived there until 2006. Living out in the country once again was something she truly enjoyed. Eventually, Jaunell and Galand retired and moved to Lockney, Texas. After her husband’s death, Jaunell moved to Lubbock in 2016, where she resided until her death. Jaunell was a loving mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She found enjoyment in cooking and sewing, in reading the Bible, vacationing with her family (particularly long road trips with her husband), watching her kids grow up, and especially spoiling all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her loving and caring nature was a blessing to her family and friends. Jaunell will be greatly missed.
Funeral Services will be at 10 am Thursday, March 28, at the Green Lawn Church of Christ in Lubbock. Visitation for family and friends before the services will be at 9am. Burial will be in the Lockney Cemetery on Thursday afternoon at 2pm.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers are her granddaughters and great-granddaughters.
