Eugene Culpepper

Eugene was born to Olus and Martha Culpepper on April 9th, 1948, in Lubbock, Texas. He attended school in Idalou before attending Texas Tech University where he received his degree in Accounting and Finance.

In 1968 Eugene began his career in farming, spending long days and nights alongside his father. While Eugene enjoyed his time farming, he discovered his passion was in ministry and decided to pursue his Divinity Degree at Seminary. The community of Smyer welcomed Eugene with open arms in 2007 as he became a pastor at Smyer First Baptist Church – serving the community for the next 18 years.

One of Eugene’s favorite forms of worship and ministry was music. He was a member of the church praise team, and over the years he sang with numerous gospel groups. Eugene’s love of singing the gospel stayed with him up until his passing.

Eugene is survived by his devoted wife, Paula Culpepper; daughter, Tamara Everitt; son, Tim Culpepper; and daughter, Whitney Kruse. He was lovingly known as "Pop" to his grandchildren.

Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, Martha and Olus Culpepper; and his sister, Sharron Lashaway.

A memorial service will take place at Smyer First Baptist Church, 902 3rd St, Smyer, TX 79367, US, on February 20, 2026, starting at 11:00 am.
