Frank Gayton Lira, born May 11, 1933, to Concepcion and Ursulo Lira, rode off into the sunset after 92 full and spirited years of life—armed with his big smile, bigger heart, and that unmistakable Texas twang that could charm just about anyone.
A proud Lubbock native, Frank was the kind of man who could light up a room with his humor and never met a stranger he didn’t turn into a friend. He spent over 50 years working for Ben E. Keith, where he was known as much for his dedication as for the stories he’d spin, often punctuated with a hearty laugh and a classic Texas "y’all."
Frank was a true family man, deeply loved and admired by all who knew him. He is survived by his four children: Sylvia Black, Timothy Lira, Frankie Lira, Bobby Lira, Tany Lucero and Cruz Lucero; his son in law Delwyn Joe Black, his beloved daughter-in-law, Alexis Lira; whom he shared many laughs with. His legacy lives on through numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who knew him as the grandpa with the best jokes and warmest hugs.
He is also survived by his two sisters, Amelia Stahonavich and Catalina Mendoza, who shared in the rich memories of their upbringing and his lifelong love for family.
Frank leaves behind a legacy of laughter, hard work, and unconditional love. He taught us to find joy in the little things, to treat folks with kindness, and never underestimate the power of a good joke with a southern drawl.
A celebration of Frank’s life will be held in Lubbock at Resthaven Memorial Park at 5740 19th St, 79407 at 11:30 am on Wednesday June 11th, 2025, where boots, memories, and tall tales will be welcome.
He may be gone, but his laugh and love live on in all of us. As Frank would’ve said, “Ain’t no need to be sad, y’all—just remember the good times and pass 'em on.”
