Frank was born on September 6, 1927, in Amarillo, Texas, to the late Doc and Margaret Washburn. He was a lifelong devoted Catholic and a loyal member of Christ the King Church in Lubbock. Frank proudly served his country in the navy during WWII before pursuing a successful career managing several medical supply companies in Amarillo and Lubbock.
Frank is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marion, his parents, Doc and Margaret, his sister, Pat, and his brother, David. He is survived by his sister Sharon, his daughter Shannon, and two sons, Matt (spouse Shauna) and Michael. He was a loving Peepaw to his grandchildren, Saxton (spouse Maria) and Meagan (spouse Braedyn), and three great-grandchildren, Brenham, Jonas, and Madden. Frank also leaves behind many wonderful nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
Frank’s love for his family was evident in everything he did. He and his wife rarely missed a practice or game, as their children were involved in many sports. He took the Dallas newspaper and read it every day in order to stay connected to what was happening in his kids’ lives when they left home to start the next chapter of their lives. Upon retirement, he and Marion began to see the world either by plane or camper, and with the arrival of Saxton and Meagan, the circle of life became an even greater joy. He cherished spending time with his family, especially taking them camping in the Pecos mountains and enjoying the beautiful sights and sounds of Ruidoso, New Mexico.
Frank was an avid sports fan and loved his Houston Astros and Dallas Cowboys. He would often be found on the golf course, regardless of the weather conditions or the constant poor state of his game. He also never lost his love of music; until the very end, music was his calming force. Frank’s charm and kindness impacted everyone he knew and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A visitation/Rosary service will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home in Lubbock, Texas, from 2:30 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 7th. A funeral mass to celebrate Frank’s life will be held at Christ the King in Lubbock, Texas, on Friday, March 8th at 10:30 A.M.
“Though we mourn the loss of Frank, we take comfort in knowing he is with his Heavenly Father and is reunited with his beloved Marion and watching over us from heaven.”
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to Interim HealthCare of Lubbock or Home Instead in gratitude for the care and love that Frank received.
