Gary was born on March 22nd, 1947, to T.M. and Nelda Moran in Childress, Texas.
Gary went on to serve his country during the Vietnam War from 1969 – 1970 as an infantry platoon sergeant and later as a platoon leader. He was a part of the 1st of the 52nd – 198th Infantry, Americal Division / Company D. Gary would finish out his tour at Arlington National Cemetery as a Battalion Ammo Chief.
Shortly after returning home, Gary began his career in law enforcement. He served his communities as a DPS Highway Patrol Trooper (1974 – 1979), Motor Vehicle Inspection (1979-1985), returned as a Highway Patrolman (1985-1989), and eventually found his true calling and passion serving as a State Narcotics Officer from 1989 until his retirement in 2002. Gary was not quite ready to retire and later returned to work, serving as a Narcotics Officer for the Hockley and Cochran County District Attorney's Offices from 2007-2016. During his tenure he developed three successful wire intercepts and federally prosecuted 38/ 38/ 27 criminals.
While Gary was devoted to his work, his family was the most important part of his life. He loved his children, his wife of 40 years, Deanna, and grandbabies more than anything. Retirement allowed Gary to put his talent in carpentry to work when he built he and his wife their beautiful dream home. Gary also enjoyed spending time in the great outdoors – whether he was hunting, tending to his home, or spending time on his motorcycle alongside his brothers in the Gunslingers MC. Gary is remembered by his family as the most wonderful husband, father, and friend who will be missed more than life itself.
Gary was preceded in death by his father, T.M. Moran; his mother, Nelda Moran; his grandmother, Sarah Anne Seal and grandfather, Ova Seal; grandmother, Myrtle Moran and grandfather, Luke Moran.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Deanna L. Moran; and their children, Shannon E. Moran and wife Karen; Michael Shane Moran and husband Adam Dominguez; Sarah A. Wilkinson and husband Alan; daughter, Summer Vandergriff; as well as two brothers, Tim Moran and Kim Allen Moran. Gary’s legacy extends to his 19 grandbabies, 4 great grandbabies, 5 nephews, 3 nieces, 2 sister-in-laws; Melissa Watkins and Denise Gray, as well as many other family members who share in our loss, love, and remembering.
