

Geneva Marzella Lewis was born May 22, 1926 in Stratford, Oklahoma. She was the oldest of seven children born to Earl and Eunice Lewis. The family later settled in Quitaque, Texas where they worked in farming. Geneva took care of her six younger siblings, cooking and taking care of the home while her parents worked the farm. Her siblings continued to call her simply “Sister” even after they were grown. She attended school in Flomot, Texas.
On February 21, 1944 Geneva married the love of her life, Ellis Smith. They moved to Lubbock in 1946 where they built a home and raised their two children, Marzella and Rynn. She was a devoted wife and mother and continued to keep a close relationship with her siblings, parents and her many nieces and nephews. Family was important to her and she kept an open house, available for any of the family to come and stay. She loved to cook and sew. She enjoyed gardening and canning homegrown fruits and vegetables.
Geneva was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis Smith. She was also preceded by her daughter, Marzella Harris as well as four of her siblings, Carl Dee Lewis, Clarence Lewis, Hop Lewis and Mae Baird.
She is survived by her son, Rynn Smith and his wife Cecelia of Lubbock; Grandchildren David English and his wife Juanet of Aubrey, Texas; Rendy English of Little Elm, Texas; Rachel Smith of Lubbock; 5 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter. She is also survived by her sister Suzie and her husband Billy Shannon of Quitaque, Texas and her brother Raymond Lewis and wife Donna of Fort Cobb, Oklahoma.
