

Memorial services will be held at 11 A.M. on Saturday, April 16, 2011, at Resthaven Funeral Home’s Abbey Chapel with Pastor Craig Sagebiel officiating. George was born on October 21, 1930, in Wichita Falls, where he grew up and in Austin. He married the love of his life, Constance Krog in Ft. Worth in 1953. They were best friends and raised three children. George and Connie were essentially inseparable and enjoyed cooking, eating, traveling, politics, science, and much of the same literature. Connie was at his side the past few years during many of his health problems.
George graduated from Midwestern University. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and completed a residency in Anesthesiology at UT-Southwestern in 1962 and was a faculty member in Dallas from 1964 to 1998. He was a member of a multitude of professional organizations.
He was an active delegate in the Texas Medical Association and the American Society of Anesthesiologists. He was a Chief of Staff and a Board Member of Methodist Hospital and a founding member of the Texas Tech Medical School Foundation Board. He enjoyed teaching anesthesiology residents at Tech, UTMB, and UT-Southwestern. He received the Ashbel Smith Distinguished Alumnus Award from UTMB in 1994.
George served in the USAF Strategic Air Command from 1956 to 1959. He completed Flight Surgeon training at the Air Force School of Aviation Medicine and had many stressful experiences during the Cold War while stationed at Homestead Air Force Base in Florida.
George was a licensed pilot and enjoyed traveling in his motor home with his wife and participating in rifle competitions.
He is survived by his wife, Connie; children: Carla and husband Dr. Ted Manny of Lubbock, George Beck III of Dallas, and Dr. Howard Beck and wife Cass of Lubbock; grandchildren: Dr. Ted Manny, Jr. and wife Dr. Julia Manny, Mark Manny, Kristen Beck, Andrew Beck, Jonathan Beck, Cade Hogan, and Kami Hogan; great grandchildren: Bergen Manny and Benjamin Manny; brothers: William Chambers and wife Madelyn and John Beck and wife Jeanette; sister, Valerie McCutchen and husband Don; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Honorary Pallbearers are: Joe Rogers, Eddie Dunlap, Dr. Ted Manny, Jr., Mark Manny, Andrew Beck, Jonathan Beck, and Cade Hogan.
George can be remembered by donating to Meals on Wheels, The South Plains Food Bank, Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, or to the organization of choice.
