Gwendolyn June (Balmain) Selke, 93, of Lubbock, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, departed this life for her eternal life on Friday, January 30, 2026. She was the third child of Roy and Retha Balmain and graduated from Hooks High School, Class of 1950. An avid cook, home canner and jelly maker, she dedicated over 15 years of service to the students of Monterey High School as a library assistant.
Mrs. Selke was preceded in death by her second husband, Sherlan Selke; her parents; her brothers, LeRoy Balmain, Dwain Balmain, Jack Balmain, Preston Balmain, Gail Balmain, and sister Donnie Sue Griffin; and her first husband, Kenneth McFarland.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Brian MacGowan of Poway, CA; grandchildren, Austin and Misha MacGowan of Poway, CA; brother, Emerson Balmain, of Hooks, TX, and extended family.
A memorial service will be held at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the South Plains Food Bank, 5605 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Lubbock, Texas 79404, or to Southern California Ballet, 12285 World Trade Drive, Ste L, San Diego, CA 92128.
