Harley Franklin

Family and friends of Harley L. Franklin will gather to celebrate his life of 69 years at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6, 2011, in the Abbey Chapel at Resthaven Funeral Home in Lubbock with Revs. Michael Struve and Chuck Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park . Visitation with the family will be at Resthaven from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 5.

Harley Franklin was born February 3, 1942, in Colorado City , Texas , and passed away at his home in Lubbock on Saturday, April 2, 2011. He was the son of Curtis Hall Franklin and Charlotte Hinsley Franklin, both of whom preceded him in death.

He attended school at Cooper, Idalou, and Abernathy. He graduated from Abernathy High School in 1960. He attended Texas Tech where he was active in the Goin’ Band from Raiderland, Alpha Phi Omega, and the Finance Association. He graduated in 1965 with a degree in Banking and Finance. He served in Vietnam in the U. S. Navy. He married Anna Hanks on September 10, 1966, in Denver City , Texas . Harley became a stock broker, working with the firms of A. G. Edwards and Schneider, Bernet and Hickman. He later farmed east of Abernathy for 25 years until his retirement in 1997. In his retirement, he pursued his interests in the stock market and genealogical research as well as discovering his greatest source of pride – grandchildren!

Harley is survived by his wife of 44 years, Anna Franklin; his children, Curtis (and wife Redina) and Angela Franklin both of Lubbock; his grandchildren: Hannah, Laura, and Cade Franklin; his aunt, Oma Dell Franklin Ely of Daytona Beach, Florida; his in-laws, Lester and Bessie Lee Hanks of Hurst, Texas; several cousins and many friends.

Pallbearers, all from the Abernathy Class of 1960, will be Tommy Matthews, Thomas Pettit, Henry Maserang, Billie Fowler, Jerry Judkins, Roy Lee Smitherman, Durwood Payne, and Jimmy Shuey.
