Helen was born June 16, 1930, in Smyer, Texas, to Mable and Harley Wood Sr. After graduating high school in 1947, she married the love of her life, Billy O. Price, a Navy man, on September 2, 1948. Together, they built a life centered on love, family, and strong values.
Helen, affectionately known as “Grandma June”, had a gift for hospitality, making everyone feel welcome and included. Helen’s home was a place where there was always an extra seat at the table, embracing everyone with open arms, even the neighborhood cats. Her rose bushes flourished under her gentle care, reflecting the same patience and love she gave so freely to others. She found great joy in celebrating life’s special moments, including birthdays and holidays. Cake, ice cream, and laughter were always part of any gathering. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her family to the world around her, having held deep respect for the military and all it represented, honoring the values of service, sacrifice, and dedication.
Helen found happiness in both connection and creativity. When she wasn’t home, she could be found at RedZone playing 42 with friends or at church enjoying fellowship. She enjoyed painting and ceramics, often bringing her grandchildren along to share in those experiences. As a gifted quilter and crocheter, she lovingly created pieces that will continue to comfort those lucky enough to receive them. Time with her grandchildren was especially dear to her, from baking endless treats, to having sleepovers filled with love and joyful fun.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mable and Harley Wood Sr.; her husband, Billy O. Price; her sisters, Eleanor, Billie Nell, and Sarah; her twin brother, Harley Wood Jr.; and her son, David Price.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Harris and husband Ray of Comanche, TX; her daughter- in-law, Kathy Price of Smyer, TX; her sons, Charles Price and wife Karen of Lubbock, TX, and Paul Price and wife Judith of Lubbock, TX. She leaves behind nine grandchildren: Jimmy Harris and wife Crystal of Comanche, TX; Stephen Harris and wife Stephanie of Granbury, TX; Sandra O'Shea and husband Michael of Parker, CO; Alice Glazner and husband Steven of Lubbock, TX; Jeremiah Price and fiancée Nyssa Capps of Grand Junction, CO; Davey Joe Price and wife Cristy of Smyer, TX; Dustin Price and wife Jennifer of Smyer, TX; Katy Price-Petrey and wife Danielle of Lubbock, TX; and Stephanie Price also of Lubbock, TX. Helen was further blessed with 25 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom were a quintessential part of her loving life.
Helen’s legacy of love, warmth, joy, and devotion to family will continue to bloom in the hearts of all who knew her. She lived her life guided by God and genuine love for family and community. Her words of wisdom, “Be true to yourself,” remain a lasting legacy to those who knew and loved her. She will be remembered for her kind heart, strength, and her deep care of others.
