

Jackie Lee Weddel was born in Amarillo, Texas on November 11th, 1952, to Royce and Pat Barnes. She graduated from Hereford High School in 1971 and married Jimmie Weddel on February 2, 1974. They Lived most of their married life in Henrietta, Texas where Jimmie worked in law enforcement. Jackie believed that all children should have an education, so she fulfilled her dream of becoming a schoolteacher, receiving her degree in 1983. She enjoyed a 30-plus year teaching career impacting the lives of kindergarteners and second graders. Jackie was also very involved in her community over the years and participated in the Henrietta Fire Department's Ladies Auxiliary, the Citizen's Emergency Response Team, and was a licensed ham radio operator. Jackie and Jimmie retired in 2009 and moved to Lubbock where she continued to be a devoted wife and life-partner to Jimmie.
Jackie lived to serve others in her family, church, and community. She organized family dinners and enjoyed playing cards at the Wolfforth Senior Citizen Center and at Providence Senior Living. In her spare time, she crocheted, creating special needlework pieces for friends and relatives. She was also an active member of Southside Church of Christ. Jackie was a warrior for the Lord, and she lived out her faith daily working alongside Jimmie in various church activities. She served her church family by organizing fellowship meals, calling shut-ins, and teaching the children's Bible Class.
She passed from this life on September 3, 2024, to join precious family members already waiting for her in heaven including her parents and grandparents.
Those left to remember her are her husband Jimmie, son Tony and wife Kelly of Rockport, her brothers and their spouses Steve and Nita Barnes and Greg and Susan Barnes, all of Lubbock. Grandchildren Samantha, Patrick, and Shannon, all of Rockport; great-grandson Cohen of Rockport as well as nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Southside Church of Christ in Lubbock on Tuesday, September 10th, 2024, at 1:00pm followed by interment at Resthaven Funeral Home in Lubbock. The family will receive friends at Resthaven on Monday, September 9th, 2024, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
The family suggests memorials to a charity of your choice.
