Mr. McCoy honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a Commander with the American Legion Post #575. James was instrumental in the planning and building of Lubbock Area Veterans War Memorial.
He was preceded in death by parents, James Roy and Thelma L. McCoy; and a brother, David McCoy.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy McCoy of 46 years; daughters, Holly McDonald and husband Sean, Robin Exum and husband Jimmie; grandchildren: Ashley, Hayley, Trae, Amanda and Jaxon; great-grandchildren, Jayda and Lillie all of Lubbock, TX; sister, Clara Orton and husband Rod of Tulsa, OK.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, April 21, 2017 at Resthaven Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Trinity Church Chapel.
