

James was born May 30, 1926 in San Saba, Texas, to the late W.E. and Opa Pierce. His family moved to Ropesville, Texas, in 1933 where he attended and graduated from Ropes High School. After his honorable discharge from serving in the United States Army, during WWII, he attended Texas Tech University, majoring in engineering. On June 12, 1947 he married Wanda Jean Sullivan, they were married for 56 wonderful years. James worked as a blacksmith alongside his father at Pierce Farm Supply until 1968, and then managed Higginbotham Bartlett Lumber Company until his retirement in 1995. In addition to his professional career, he also served as Mayor of Ropesville, Texas. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Ropesville, Texas, where he taught Sunday school classes for the youth at the First Baptist Church Spanish Mission.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Wanda; and his sister, Veda Nell.
He is survived by his son, Randal Pierce, of Ropesville, Texas; daughter, Becky Pierce Evans, of Lubbock, Texas; four grandchildren, Jonathon Pierce and his wife Desiree, Makayla Pierce, Kaitlyn Evans, Jacob Evans; in-laws, John and Barbara Embery; niece, Barbara Devine and her husband Berny; nieces Gloria (Charles) Case, Pam (John) Deaver, Sharon (Alan) Jones, Stephanie Embery, Sharon Stabell and many close friends he considered family.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at Wilshire Assisted Living on 4th street for their love and support.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family suggests making donations in his name to the First Baptist Church in Ropesville, Texas or Hospice of Lubbock (hospiceoflubbock.org)
