

Jerrie Casey Jernigan, aged 96, died in Lubbock, Texas, on Wednesday, March 25, 2026. Jerrie was born on September 22, 1929, in Silverton, Texas to Joseph Witt Casey and Stella King Casey. Jerrie was the middle child of this family with an older sister, JoAnn, and a younger brother, Billy. As the daughter of a schoolteacher, Jerrie attended many schools and graduated from high school in San Marcos, Texas. While attending Sul Ross college, Jerrie met the love of her life, James Walter (Jake) Jernigan. Jerrie was welcomed into a loving family and put on Christ in baptism shortly after marrying Jake. Jake and Jerrie had two children, Claudia Jo and Pamela Jean, with Jake working in the oil fields in Texas, Utah, New Mexico and Colorado. Jerrie learned to set up a house and make friends quickly. Even more so, as they moved to Columbia, Ecuador, Trinidad, Tunisie, Egypt, and Russia eventually retiring in College Station, Texas. As faithful members of the Church of Christ, they strengthened the church wherever they lived. Jerrie had a passion for helping others. She will be remembered for her love of hospitality, turquoise jewelry, garage sales, and Texas A&M.
Jerrie is survived by her daughter, Claudia Jo Gillespie, of Lubbock, Texas and granddaughter, Jennifer Lynne Gillespie of Dallas, Texas, and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Pamela Jean Jernigan, husband, Jake Jernigan, parents, Joseph and Stella Casey, sister, JoAnn Reinhardt and brother, Bill Casey. A graveside service is scheduled for Wednesday, April 1, at 2:00 p.m. at the City of Lubbock Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Sunset International Bible Institute. The family would also like to thank the staff of Carillon House for their loving care of Jerrie.
