

Joe Glenn Blackwood, 87, Lubbock, Texas, passed away January 29th, 2022. He was born in Groveton, Texas on September 11, 1934 to Clyde and Annabelle Blackwood. Joe graduated from Ennis High School and received a Bachelor’s degree from East Texas State. Joe played football as a lineman for Rice and East Texas State.
He was married to Eleanor Blackwood on May 16, 1959. They shared 62 years together. Their love for each other grew over the years and so did their family. They had 4 children who they loved dearly.
Joe had a career in insurance for Travelers and Allstate for 35 years. He retired as an independent agency manager.
Joe had a passion for bird dog training, hunting, Texas Tech, Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs football. We like to say he has the best seat in the house for the Sunday’s game. He also had a passion for books especially his copy of the Earnest Hemmingway “For Whom the Bell Tolls” that his daughter gave him.
Joe is survived by his wife Eleanor, his daughters Debbie (Royce) and Pam, his sons Chris (Jocelyn) and Paul, 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, 3 siblings, and 2 granddaughters.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at 2:00PM at Resthaven Memorial Park.
