Joe was predeceased by his son Joe Bob Knight II.
Joe is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary Knight. His Daughters: Mary Kniss and her husband David; Nancy Knight and Karen; Fay Knight; Deanna Reed and husband Tim, Libby Hill and husband Terry. Joe has been greatly blessed with 15 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
In Joe’s younger years, he worked on the family farm and enjoyed Coon hunting with his dog, squirrel hunting and riding his horse, Blackie.
At the age of 19, Joe joined the Marine Corps and saw active duty in Korea. He was honorably discharged after eight years of service to our country. After his service he married Mary and cowboyed on a ranch in Oklahoma, then continued and to work for Hilyard drilling company as a seismograph driller, contracting out to Shell Oil Company working his way up to area superintendent in Gaylord Michigan. In 1974 he bought his own rig and formed Knight drilling company. In 1977 Joe and Mary move to Lubbock Texas to make their business more centrally located where he worked across the United States. Shortly after he decide to do test holes and water well drilling in the south western United States.
Joe loved drilling and reluctantly retired at the age of 65. He continued to do consulting work for other business for years afterwards. He enjoyed helping others in the business.
Joe Knight was a believer in the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. He was a loving, soft-spoken, family man who loved and purposely took the time to teach others. He will be greatly missed and loved by his family and friends.
A visitation will take place Thursday, March 10, 2022, at Resthaven Funeral Home from 10:00AM to 12:00PM. Funeral Services will be at Resthaven Funeral Home Abbey Chapel Thursday, March 10, 2022, at 2:00PM with burial to follow.
