

John became a Christian during his childhood. His favorite scriptures- John 3:16 and the first sentence of I Corinthians 15:10 in the K.J Version.
He graduated from Slaton High School in Slaton in 1955. He graduated from Texas Tech with a Bachelor of Science in Education Degree in 1958. He received his Master of Education Degree from Texas Tech in 1963, and has 30+ hours above the Masters Degree in the fields of math and science.
John taught at Smyer for two years, then 32 years of Lubbock Independent School District at J.T. Hutchinson Junior High School. And Smylie Wilson Junior High School, then retired in 1992.
John was a life member of Texas Classroom Teachers Association, Texas State Teachers Association, National Education Association, and Texas Retired Teachers Association. He was the past President of the Lubbock County Unit of the Texas State Teachers Association.
John was a member of Highland Baptist Church.
John was an artis, bowler, golfer, and loved to travel. He and Elaine have been to all 50 state, all 10 provinces of Canada, 51 foreign countries, and all 7 continents.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Brother, Wyman Richey and nephew Lee Richey.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine, and nephew, Will Richey, of Houston, Texas.
