Kay was born on January 30, 1943 in Stamford Texas to J.O. and Florence Carpenter, who proceeded her in death. She graduated from Dimmitt High School and married her high school sweetheart Leeroy O’Briant on June 30, 1962.
Kay is survived by her husband Leeroy, daughter Tina Mobley and husband Shannon of Odessa and daughter Tawna Evans and husband Tom of Lubbock. She also leaves behind her loving grandchildren: Kirsten Evans and Michael Slentz of Tombstone, Arizona; Chelsea and Dylan Castillo of San Antonio; Shelby Mobley and fiancé Kendall Walker of San Marcus, and Carter Evans of Lubbock. She was also blessed with great-granddaughter Harper Slentz.
Kay also leaves behind her sister Darlene Dowell, her husband Bryce and her niece Melony Fant and her family. Kay is proceeded in death by sister Claudie Preston and nephews Kris Dowell, Randal Preston and Russell Preston.
Kay lived a wonderfully full life focused on her husband Leeroy, her family and her Lord. A celebration of her life will be held at First Baptist Church Ford Chapel on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at 11:00 AM. Kay and Leeroy have been members and served at First Baptist for over 40 years. Visitation will be at Resthaven Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 from 6-8 PM. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.
