A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Larry lived a life marked by service, faith, and unwavering dedication to his family and community. He served the City of Lubbock with honor for 31 years as a member of the Lubbock Police Department, retiring as a Sergeant. Following his retirement from law enforcement, Larry continued his servant’s heart by helping his son Todd at Interstate Batteries for another 15 years.
Larry had a deep love for the outdoors. He found joy in gardening, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his boys at the ranch—places where his presence brought peace, laughter, and wisdom. Above all, he was a strong Christian man whose faith guided every step of his journey.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Loretta Downey; Sister Dolores Gustin, his sons, Todd Downey (Wife Kristi Downey) and Kevin Downey; grandchildren, Shane Downey (Wife Patty Downey), Shawna Downey, Seth Downey, Danielle Downey and Brandon Downey; and great-grandchildren Samantha, Blake, Sha’Von, Ace, Ivy, and Sawyer. His legacy of strength, compassion, and faith lives on in each of them.
He is proceeded in death by his parents Ralph and Ruth Downey; and brother Donald Downey.
Visitation will be held Monday, July 28, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home & Memorial Park. A celebration of Larry’s life will take place Tuesday, July 29, at 2:00 PM in the Resthaven Chapel.
