Lee Allison Sears passed peacefully on October 14, 2022. He was born on July 6, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Wilbur and Gladys Sears.
Lee received his undergraduate degree in Economics from DePauw University in 1965. He went on to earn his MBA from the University of Michigan in 1966 and then graduated from the Naval Officer Candidate School in 1968.
Lee was kind, compassionate and principled. Above all, he was devoted to his family’s happiness after losing his own parents at a relatively early age. He married the absolute love of his life, Gerre Marie Kaller on June 18th, 1970. The couple celebrated their 50th anniversary on June 18th, 2020 surrounded by family and friends.
Their son and only child, Lee Jason Sears, was born on August 30th, 1972. Lee found great joy introducing Jason to baseball early in his son’s life as the team’s coach. He then religiously attended Jason’s games over the next 13 years. Lee was a prolific reader of history and especially enjoyed the works of David McCullough. His favorite historical figure was George Washington—with Abraham Lincoln finishing a close second place—inspired by their sense of duty and bravery in the face of profound adversity.
Lee was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, where he served for 23 years in the Supply Corps and achieved the rank of Commander. He often recalled fond memories of his days “aboard ship in the (Mediterranean)”. Lee was a licensed financial advisor at Lincoln National Life in Lubbock where he provided retirement and financial guidance to the community for 27 years. He was consistently a top performing sales manager, but Lee most valued the lasting relationships he developed with his clients who recall his sound, honest guidance and warm smile.
In addition to his parents, Lee was predeceased by a sister, Penny Sears Appleman. In addition to Gerre and Jason, he is survived by Jason’s wife Claudia and two grand-daughters Allison (named after her Papa) and Jordan. Lee’s nephews, Todd & Scott Appleman, live in California.
Those who wish to remember Lee in a special way are welcomed to donate to Second Baptist Church, Hospice of Lubbock, and Carillon Senior Living.
A celebration of life memorial service for Lee will be held Monday, November 21, 2022 at 3:00 PM at The Carillion, 1717 Norfolk, Lubbock, TX.
