

Linda Sue (Briscoe) Baker went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013. Born in Overton, Texas, on Sept. 5, 1937, to Lonnie and Opal Briscoe, Linda attended school in Brownfield, Texas, where she met and married her high school sweetheart, Cecil Wayne Baker, in 1954. Their love affair lasted for 59 blessed years. Linda was a longtime resident of Ventura, Calif. She loved the Lord and was a member of the First Christian Church. Linda was an avid gardener and held all creatures great and small close to her heart. Those left to cherish her memories are her husband, Cecil; her two children, Rhonda Sue Bennett and husband James of Floresville, Texas, and son, Michael Baker and wife Kristin of Derby, Kan.; daughter-in-law, Susan Baker of Oxnard, Calif.; grandchildren, Amy Sandler and husband Andrew, Kathryn Curtis and husband Mitchell, Lauren Baker and Cody Baker; great-grandchildren, Tobias and Miranda Sandler; and two brothers, Lonnie Dee Briscoe Jr. and wife Nancy of Brownfield, Texas, and Charles Briscoe and wife Neva of Santa Maria, Calif. Linda was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert Briscoe; and in-laws, Floyd and Jessie Mae Baker (Parks); as well as one son, Leonard Derrell Baker, and grandson, Ryan Derrell Baker, of Oxnard, Calif. Visitation will be held form 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at Resthaven Funeral Home, 5740 W. 19th Street, Lubbock, TX 79407. A memorial service will be Monday, Jan. 21, at 11 a.m. officiated by Dr. Michael Passmore at the First Christian Church located at 2323 Broadway.
The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association, or charity of the givers choice, in lieu of flowers.
