Maria R Contreras

She was born in Del Rio, Texas on April 9, 1934. Maria was married to Teodoro V. Contreras on March 2, 1952 at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Del Rio. She worked as a radiology transporter for Methodist Hospital which is now Covenant. Maria was a member of the West Texas Organizing Strategy and the Guadalupanas, both groups were very dear to her. She loved dancing, cooking, gardening and decorating her home for the holidays, inside and out.

Maria was preceded in death by her parents, Tomas and Aurora Rangel, husband, children, JoAnn Contreras, Evangelina Herrera, Ricardo Contreras, and Rosalinda Contreras; siblings, Tomas Rangel, Jr., and Josephina Contreras.

Maria is survived by her children, Eleanor Sanchez, Elisa Lomas, Estella Escamilla, Edelmira DeLeon, Teodoro Contreras, Jr., Edwardo Contreras, and Anna Louisa Gonzales; 36 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren; siblings, Raquel R. Pena, Dora Salazar, Roberto Rangel, Sylvia Rangel, Delia Pantoja, Marisela Pena, Alberto Rangel, Susana Tristan, Linda Sais, Janie Alonso; and many other family members and friends.

A visitation for Maria will be held Sunday, December 11, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 5740 West 19th Street, Lubbock, Texas 79407. A rosary will occur Sunday, December 11, 2022 from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM, 5740 West 19th Street, Lubbock, Texas 79407. A funeral mass will occur Monday, December 12, 2022 at 2:00 PM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 102 N Avenue P, Lubbock, Texas 79401.
