Marvin Carl West, 96, of Lubbock Texas passed away January 1, 2017. Marvin was survived by his loving wife Opal of 76 years of marriage. He was born December 30th, 1920 and raised in Cross Plains TX. Marvin was the youngest of 14 Children.
He was a decorated Veteran of the Army during the era of WWII during 1944-1946 , 611th Tank Destroyer Battalion. Marvin was an avid mechanic and employed as a Foreman by the City of Lubbock Sanitation Department for 36 years. He shared his talents and his love for country music in playing guitar, dobro, and pedal steel guitar with many local musicians of his time in the Lubbock and the surrounding communities across West Texas and Eastern New Mexico.
He is survived by 4 children two daughters, Fredia Cox, Littleton, CO, Denise Daniel ,Lubbock TX; two sons: Carl West, Tucson, AZ, Gordon West, Peralta, NM.; ten grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and their first great-great-granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.
