

She is preceded in death by her parents, step mother Glenna Burns, siblings Larry Burns, Elizabeth Higginbotham, Linda Montgomery, and son-in-law David May.
Peggy grew up on a farm in Gaines county. She learned farming ways, drove a truck, hoed the fields and picked cotton at eight years old. She learned housekeeping and cooking from her mother and also earned a state award in Home economics. Peggy graduated as salutatorian from Seagraves High School in 1963.
She married her high school sweetheart and had four daughters; Becky Rickard, Susan ( d. 2024 David) May, Robin (Jody) Simpson, and Sarah (Brent) Collins all of Lubbock. Peggy is also survived by step Brothers, Ted and James Johnston, and many nieces and nephews.
When her children were young, Peggy stayed home and cared for her family. She was an excellent seamstress and made all of her children’s clothes. Peggy was involved in school and church activities. She served on the PTA at Overton elementary. Peggy was a room mother, Girl Scout leader, and cookie chairman for many years. As a Girl Scout leader, she took her troop on campouts as well as traveling to Wyoming for the Girl Scouts to see Yellowstone Park.
She has four grandchildren Logan Rickard, Kelsey (Ray) Fairley, Abbi May, and Cameron May, all of Lubbock.
She pursued what would become a long fulfilling career in nursing in Lubbock. She spent years working as an LVN and returned to school in her early 40’s earning her RN. She worked as a surgical RN for 25 more years before retiring in 2011.
She loved her God and her church. She was an active member of Pioneer Park Church of Christ, Monterey Church of Christ, and Sunset Church of Christ. After retiring she volunteered for Medical Missions traveling to Ecuador and Honduras caring for others and helping those in need. Living her retirement dreams still included caring for others.
Peggy poured herself into her family, friends, and church family. She lived deeply in her faith. She has been set free and made whole once again. Everyone who loves her rejoices with her for the reunion she has with her savior and all those that went before her.
The family would like to thank Adam‘s House Assisted Living and Hospice of Lubbock for the loving care and support that they provided to Peggy during the last 11 months of her life.
