

Philip Henry Wright was born on August 22nd, 1953, to Jack and Alney Wright in Houston, Texas.He graduated from Westchester High School of Houston in 1971. He then continued his studies at the University of Houston as a Radio & Television major. He had a deep interest in music and had been caught air drumming to some of his favorite rock and roll songs more than once. Following a passion, he became an established and accomplished sound engineer for The Nelson’s. He toured and worked with musicians such as Restless Heart, Sawyer Brown, Lee Greenwood, Holly Dunn, Steve Wariner, Ronnie Milsap, Los Lobos, and Stevie Ray Vaughan and The Fabulous Thunderbirds among many others. He worked at Electric Ear Studios prior to his co-ownership of West Texas Pro Audio.In addition to his love of music, he maintained an interest and a very adept skillset in any and all things technological. He obtained numerous certifications, skills, qualifications, and accolades in the various technological fields he maintained focus and interest in.In 2003, he established Jabanero Services Dallas, where he provided Audio Visual system design, consultation, and programming services to the Dallas/Fort Worth and Houston areas. From 2006 through 2009, he continued to use his vast experience and knowledge while providing system design, consultation, engineering, programming, and technical support skills for companies such as SPL Integrated Solutions, AMX, J&S Audio Visual, and The Whitlock Group.In 2010, he began working in Lubbock for the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center as a Telemedicine Technology Manager, where he purchased, installed, and programmed video conferencing and audio/visual medical equipment for the institute’s local and remote locations and clinics all over the state of Texas. To this day, TTUHSC continues to use telemedicine sites and equipment planned, installed, and programmed as a result of his work.In 2016, he began working for Nexstar Media Group, KLBK / KAMC TV, in Lubbock, Texas. He was trained as a studio camera operator before expanding into graphics operation, and audio. He often enjoyed taking his son and grandchildren into the studios to meet the co-workers, newscasters, and meteorologists that he held in such high regard.Being unable to put his passions aside, he continued with projects such as Under the Hood Entertainment, Wright Amps, and Wright Innovations where he continued to work with, amplify, and represent performing musicians. He specialized in guitar tube amplifier repair, building, and modification. He even designed and built a select few “Wright Amps” branded guitar amplifiers.He passed away in the presence of his son and step-daughter at University Medical Center in Lubbock on January 3rd, 2020, as a result of heart complications and conditions.He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Jack and Alney Wright.He is survived in death by his son, Joshua Wright and wife Cori; Sister Mollie Ellerkamp and husband Mike; Step-daughter Kristin O’Banion and husband Heath; grandchildren Payton, Jase, Londyn, and Grant.Services will be held at 2:00 PM on January 11th, 2020, at Rock City, 5833 4th Street, Lubbock, Texas, 79416.
