Phil was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on November 22, 1930 and lived there until moving to Lubbock in 1946. He attended Lubbock High School for his senior year and entered Texas Tech in 1947. He graduated in 1951 with a BA in Business.
Following graduation he joined the U.S. Navy and soon married his college sweetheart, Beth Norman, on December 28, 1951, in Lubbock, at the Broadway Church of Christ. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1955. In 1960, Phil then joined his father in Sterling Building Materials. He was president of the company from 1979 through 1999.
He loved his family. In his mind, no one ever had a better wife, children, grand children and great-grand children, and he let them know it every day. In retirement, he volunteered for Meals on Wheels, and Covenant Medical Center. He served as a deacon and elder of the Broadway Church of Christ for many years. At the time of his death he was a member of the Monterey Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Beth (Norman) Crumpler and two sons; Cliff & Mary Kay of Ft. Worth; and John & Robbi, of Lubbock. He also leaves four grandchildren David Crumpler of Ft. Worth, Ryan and Jane Crumpler of Washington, D.C., Katie Beth & Jonathan Reding of Raleigh-Durham, N.C. and Abby Crumpler of Lubbock. He leaves 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Sterling and Thelma (Cain) Crumpler.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be sent to the Monterey Church of Christ, or Hospice of Lubbock. Condolences may be offered at www.resthavenfuneralhome.com
