Reta Jean Sport

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Sister, Mema, Aunt and Friend. Although words can never fully capture a person’s spirit, we honor her life, legacy, and the profound impact she made on those who knew her.

Loretta (Reta) J. Sport, aged 88, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2025, in Lubbock, Texas. Born on November 26, 1936, in Rochester, Texas. Reta’s faith in Jesus Christ, kindness, warmth, generosity, laughter and joy touched the lives of all who crossed her path.

Reta always had a smile for everyone she saw. She had a great dedication to her family, who she loved in a big way. She was very artistic, creative, and always determined to figure out a solution to any problem…and she usually did. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

Reta is survived by her 4 children, Carol Gentry (Sam), Rhonda Barton (Tom), Rodney Sport (Charlene) and Sammie Edwards (Zane), her sister, Vonnie Speck, 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by husband, Robert Sport, son, Robert Sport, Jr., father, RV Speck, mother, Lucile Payne, stepfather, Roy Payne and brothers, Wayne Speck, Glenn Speck and Darryl Speck.

A graveside memorial service to celebrate Reta’s life will be held on October 17, 2025, at 2:00, at Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock.
