Richard L. Matthews

Richard Lynn Matthews was born November 8, 1934 in Vernon, TX to the late Rober E. and Thelma Matthews. He graduated from Mar Vista HS, Imperial Beach, CA. and later joined the U.S. Air Force where he met his wife Marie Evans. They were married December 24, 1954. He retired in August 1974 after 20 years of military service. While in high school he served in the Army National Guard for two years. After retirement he attended Lubbock Christian University. He was later employed at Lockheed Martin He was named “Lockheed Employee of the Month, Quarter and Year”. He was an avid bowler starting his bowling career in the early years of his military service. He was a longtime member of the Lubbock Men’s Bowling Association. He served as a member of the board of director’s, was a lifetime member, and past president. The highlight of his bowling career was when he was initiated into the “LBA Bowler’s Hall of Fame”. He was also active in youth bowling and little league baseball. He leaves one daughter Sherri Bear and husband Les of Littlefield, TX and three grandchildren, Erika Nimry of Abu Daubi, UAE, Ryan Nimry of Lubbock, and Kinlee Barron all of Littlefield, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in The Abbey Chapel at Resthaven Funeral Home with interment to follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.
