

Robert (Bob) Sampson, age 88 of Lubbock went to join his beloved wife, Helen in the presence of their Father on Tuesday April 8. A visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 5740 W. 19th St in Lubbock on Friday afternoon from 4-6PM. Funeral Services will be held also at Resthaven on Saturday April 12 at 2PM. Pastor Keith Wiseman will officiate.
Bob was born October 15, 1925 in St Joseph, Missouri to Rev. Floyd B. and Frankie Sampson. He spent most of his childhood in St Jo and Kyle, Texas where his father served as Pastor of the local Baptist churches. He graduated from Seguin High School where he met his sweetheart, Helen Louise Young. They were married in 1945. Immediately upon graduating high school Bob enlisted in the U.S. Navy and spent the next two years aboard the USS Ballard in the Pacific Theater that included the Mariana Islands Campaign.
Upon his discharge from the US Navy in 1946 he attended Southwest State Teachers College and Baylor University.
In August of 1950 Bob was called back into military service during the Korean conflict and was put in charge of the Navy Recruiting Stations in San Antonio, Texas and San Diego, California.
Bob and Helen moved to Brownfield, Texas with their two sons in 1955 and then on to Lubbock in 1968 where they lived except for a five year stay in the Ft. Worth area. Bob was in the automotive dealership business most of his adult life. He moved his family to Lubbock to accept the Parts Manager job for the new Don Crow Chevrolet Dealership at Loop 289 and Slide Road.
Bob was a bird hunter and fisherman and later in life a golfer who enjoyed being out with his friends. He was a Master Mason and also long time member of First Methodist Church of Lubbock. He and his wife Helen were beloved members of the Lubbock Lions Club and sent many children to the Lions Camp in Kerrville, Texas for summer camp. Bob also served the Lions Club as Treasurer.
Bob is preceded in death by his sister Betty Swearingen.
Bob is survived by his sister Loralee Lillibridge and her husband Gordie of Grand Rapids, Michigan, his son Mark and wife, Virginia, and his son Tim and wife, Mary Jane all of Lubbock,.
