Russel Montgomery

Russel Montgomery Jr. 81, of Lubbock passed away on December 7, 2013. He was born to Russel Sr. and Ruby Montgomery on June 12, 1932 in DeKalb, Illinois. After graduating from DeKalb High School, he enlisted in the US Air Force and was stationed at Reese AFB for several years, where he met his future wife.He and Anna Davis were married on October 15, 1955. They are the parents of Marcia Lear and Lisa Green, both of Lubbock.

After serving almost 10 years in the Air Force, Russel returned to school where he received his Bachelor degree from Texas Tech. Russel was commissioned as a National Bank Examiner in 1967. He later served as Vice President with a bank in Odessa and then as a financial counselor in Arkansas and Lubbock. He retired in Lubbock in 1995. Russel enjoyed family, fishing, golf and spending time with friends. He had been an active member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Lubbock for more than 50 years as well as serving as a deacon and financial secretary. Russel had been in other activities including Odessa Chuck Wagon Gang and the Mackenzie Masonic Lodge where he raised to Master Mason in 1979.

Russel is survived by his wife of 58 years, Anna; daughter, Marcia Lear and Marcia’s two children Lauren Lear, Austin Lear and Lauren’s fiancé, Kevin Graves; and daughter, Lisa Green (David) and their son, Kyle; two step granddaughters, Niki Seal and Megan Green, one great-granddaughter, Macie Graves and one step great-granddaughter, Kendall Seal; sisters, Betty and Vicki both from Illinois and Stephannie of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

Russel was preceded in death by his parents, Russel Sr. and Ruby Montgomery and one sister, Carol .

Funeral services for Russel will be at 11:00a.m. on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Pastor Dr. Steve Doles officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. His family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 10 from 6-7:30p.m. at Resthaven.
