

Born on August 8, 1935, in Roxton, Texas, Sue T. Phares was the beloved daughter of Hubert and Alice Tabor. She later made Lubbock, Texas her home, where she lived a full and vibrant life until her passing on September 10, 2025.
Sue married the love of her life, Carl Phares, on August 16, 1958. Their union was filled with devotion and adventure until Carl preceded her in death on October 31, 1991.
As one of thirteen siblings, Sue cherished her large and loving family. She is survived by her brothers Paul Tabor (Gay) and JW Tabor (Debby), and her sisters Billie Cummings, Dorothy Aycock, Janet Lusk (Rick), Mary Williams (Eddie), and Vicki McCrary (Floyd). She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who adored her.
Sue dedicated over 40 years of her life to Highland Hospital, where she served as the head of the Radiology department. Her commitment and leadership left a lasting impact on her colleagues and the community.
A woman of many talents and passions, Sue found joy in china painting, wood carving, knitting, and crocheting. She was an avid collector of Hopi Kachina dolls, amassing a remarkable collection of over 60 pieces.
Known for her independent spirit, Sue lived life on her own terms. Her motto, "She did it her way," perfectly encapsulates her strength and authenticity.
Sue was a proud 50-year member of the No. 76 Chapter of Eastern Star, a testament to her dedication and service.
A visitation for Sue will be held Thursday, September 18, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home, 5740 19th St., Lubbock, Texas. Following the visitation, a graveside service will take place from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 5740 19th St, Lubbock, TX 79407.
Sue's legacy of love, strength, and creativity will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
