

The family of Suzanne Samson Copeland will celebrate her the life of 76 years at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 3, 2020, at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church out doors in the courtyard. She passed away on Thursday, August 27, 2020. In support of the health of her family, face coverings are mandatory while attending the service. Friends are invited to share memories and expressions of sympathy for the family to cherish on this page.The Samson family moved to Post, Texas, in the early 1900s as part of the Utopians movement. Plumbers by trade they eventually opened Samson Plumbing in 1918. The business was brought to Lubbock by Ormond Samson after his service in WWII as a naval pilot. Ormond Samson met and married May Wharton, a Dallas native, in 1943. They had Suzanne Samson on January 7, 1944, in Norman, OK. During his tour Mary sent Ormond a letter recounting the dream she had where they had a daughter named Suzanne. After settling in Lubbock, Ormond and Mary would go on to have two more children, Nancy Samson-Jensen, and Clark Samson. Clark carried on the family tradition of plumbers and took the family business Samson Plumbing to Marin County, California, where he operates today.Suzanne graduated from Monterey High School and went to Texas Tech University where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Art Education. She would several years later go on to complete a Master’s Degree from Texas Tech. She married Samuel Lee Copeland in 1970. After 10 years of marriage, they adopted Brandi Autumn and DeLinda Renee. Suzanne has been a teacher for the Lubbock Independent School District for nearly 50 years, teaching at Monterey, Coronado, Lubbock HS, Mathews, and Project Intercept. She was most proud of her time working with children in need or in crisis. Her ability to bring value and self-worth through art and the creative process has impacted generations of Lubbock students. Her contributions to the spiritual community in Lubbock through service to the Episcopal Church and Daughters of the Cross have been a blessing to many. Suzanne was an avid reader, completing as many as five books a week at times. She was a volunteer member of "Friends of the Library" for many years.Her work as an artist included jewelry/silver work, painting, mixed media, Iconography, and sculpture. There was seaming no end to her creativity and contribution to the community.
