Sybil Marie Pierson Dickey of Lubbock passed away peacefully on August 23, 2014 in Clifton, Texas. She was born December 15, 1927 in Ranger, Texas to Luther Griffin Pierson and Eunice White Pierson. The second of three daughters, Sybil graduated from Pampa High School in 1946 and pursued her passion for art while earning a Bachelor of Arts in Commercial Art at Southern Methodist University in 1950. Sybil married Richard B. Dickey, son of Pauline and J. Ray Dickey on May 19, 1951. Their son David was born September 30, 1952, followed by daughter Linda in June 1955. An intrepid adventurer, Sybil traveled extensively with her husband Richard, from boating and sailing the Caribbean to skiing the Swiss Alps and catching trout in Montana. They were married 63 years and enjoyed adventures all over the world.

Sybil and Richard split their time between Lubbock, Ruidoso and California for many years.
Sybil was a lifelong student of art and participated in many invitational competitions, mounting solo exhibits of her work throughout Lubbock, California, New Mexico and the state of Texas. In 1974, President Gerald Ford honored Sybil for her contribution to the arts at the recommendation of her work by Texas State Senator George Mahon.
Mrs. Dickey’s contributions to civic and cultural improvements began with her arrival in Lubbock with husband Richard in 1951, and continued throughout her life. She was very involved with many dance and theater activities as well as her college sorority Alpha Delta Pi.
