What a beautiful person Sylvia was to so many! I have that feeling of loss again for Sylvia as I felt for my family.  She was indeed part of my choir family.  Sylvia was strong, tough, gentle, loving, funny and smart.  She was one of a kind.  I will always cherish the gorgeous music made with her  all over the world.  She was always a steadfast leader in our beloved Chancel choir.  Sylvia will forever be in our hearts and minds.

I have missed Sylvia sitting beside me in the FMUC choir.....I learned so much from her over the years just singing  and listening to her.  Not only that, Sylvia sang at my wedding on a very cold January night 43 years ago....I appreciated her so much. With all her talents, she will be missed. Am so very thankful for our friendship  with Sylvia and her family.  Have enjoyed her wonderful voice in the choir and in the church plays.  Also we have had many great  times together at church  in Bible Studies and classes.   She has truly blessed our lives!!! Marisue and Jere Smith

I like to think that Gordon McMillan is gathering his choir of angels and he was indeed saving a spot for Sylvia.  She was a pillar in the life of our choir.   When you travel the world with a choir you become family.   Every Sunday when I have lunch I remember Sylvia because we were part of a Choir Lunch Bunch for years.   She impacted so many lives and was so dedicated.   Save a spot in that heavenly choir for me too.   We will see you again.   Peace be with you.

Alllison and family, What a beautiful celebration of a gracious lady.  When I talked with her at the wedding, she was intent on making me feel like our chat was special ...and I suspect that's how she treated everyone!  You could see the joy of the Lord in her. Hers was a life well lived and her goal achieved. Praying for you all in the days ahead.

Sylvia was a pillar of the Chancel Choir.  I can’t think about the many glorious anthems without picturing Gordon leading and Sylvia and Sue on the back row with Mrs. Butler tucked in there somewhere. I have special memories of Sylvia, Grady, and Ed that are tucked in my heart as precious gifts. God bless the Taylor family

Our sympathies to Alison, Warren and all your family members on the loss of your dear Sylvia.  I came late to the FUMC music family but was able to enjoy the many wonderful and (most often) funny stories about past choir trips and musicals.  Most of my memories of Sylvia were of singing with her in the alto section of the choir, in the FUMC choir loft, in wonderful cathedrals and even acapella in ruins of a church or two in England.  Sylvia was the anchor for our alto section, no matter where we were. But I also think fondly of Sylvia's skill at selling tickets for the FUMC musicals when I was working with Gordon McMillan.  She kept us on our toes and was usually #1 in line waiting at the office door.  The funeral, by necessity a virtual presentation, was very moving, especially with family participation and wonderful photos. Alison, it was special during my membership in Allegro Music Club to get to know your Mother.  Sylvia was such a capable, lovely and talented person.  During the years, when she was President of Allegro in 2004-05, and 2007-08, our Club enjoyed great programming and musical talents.  Since she graduated from the same high school in Houston that my late husband did, they always chatted about John H. Reagan High School (which in recent years had its name changed).  Over the past few years, she has served Allegro by being one of its callers.  I always looked forward to her cherry calls.  My love, condolences and blessings to you and the family as you mourn the loss of this special mother.

Dear Alison, Warren, Ed and Connor: We send our love and our prayers. It was so good to see you all at the wedding in January, and I’m particularly glad that we had time with Sylvia. She was a remarkable lady. Donna and I remember when we were driving cross country on Navy orders, we stopped in Lubbock and stayed with Sylvia and Grady. They were wonderful hosts and made us feel welcome in their home. My mom, Janet, was very fond of Sylvia, and extends her heartfelt love and condolences. She too is in assisted living under lockdown. Alison and Warren,  Your mom holds a special place in my heart. We shared so many memorable times over the years that to single out just one would be impossible. But know I loved her very much and miss seeing her in her 'spot' on the back row of the choir. I can imagine all our friends waiting to greet her in heaven. Can't you just see Gordon, with his goofy grin, and lanky walk, meeting her with his arms outstretched, saying, “Give me a hug,” and then telling her about this perfect spot in the alto section of the choir that he had been saving just for her. Perhaps her favorite song was the first to be sung - How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place. I love thinking of her singing in a choir where ultimately, we will all reassemble..... Dear Allison, Warren and Family, your extended Houston area family -- all of Adele's and David's kids and grandkids -- grieve with you. As I think back on my childhood, some of my happiest times were the times we spent with the Taylors. You all were nothing short of magical for us Bower kids! And Aunt Sylvia was always such a special, joyous, loving, larger than life presence for us. No one else ever greeted us the way she did! And of course her love for music is a big part of those memories (like the way Ed Ames, of all people, keeps coming to mind). I am so sorry that we can't be there with you this weekend. But we will be with you in spirit. Julie and I love you all and look forward to reuniting with our dear Aunt Sylvia one day in heaven.
