Ted graduated from Abernathy High School. He played basketball at TTU from 1952-54 and was a member of its first NCAA Tournament Team. He was an avid golfer, and scored 8 holes-in-one in his lifetime. Additionally, he bowled six 300 games. He was a life insurance agent for 50 years and was a member of the Great Southern Life Hall of Fame. He was a longstanding member of Hillcrest Country Club, was a mason and member of Westmont Christian Church.
He married Neta Rae Tatum on June 15, 1957. She preceded him in death this past December. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Billie Ann Thomas.
Survivors include one son, Jeff and wife Marti Watts; one daughter, Jill Watts; two grandchildren, Mackamy Pooley and Peighton Watts and two special companions Shada Belle and Asti, all of Lubbock;
A memorial services will be held at 10 am on Thursday at Hillcrest Country Club. Private interment will be at Resthaven.
