Thelma and Gene Mize had four sons and an adopted daughter. Two of the sons, Ricky and Gary, preceded her in death. Surviving are sons Bob Mize (Charlotte) of Lubbock, Danny Mize (Peggy) of Amarillo, a daughter Linda Rheinecker of Illinois, daughter-in-law Sue Work of Florida, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Thelma treated her daughters-in-law as her own, and was also very close to Owen’s three children, who survive her: Curtis Clark (Susan), Carol Daniel (Lloyd), and Catherine Frazey (David). She treasured her many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Thelma was humorous and outgoing, making friends wherever she lived and traveled. She was very involved in her local congregations in Belleville, Illinois, the Azores, and in Lubbock. Thelma was a Mary Kay Cosmetics Consultant, a volunteer at Covenant Medical Center, and a supporter of several mission and benevolent endeavors. Her final years were spent at Carillon Senior LifeCare Community, where she made many more friends. The family is grateful to staff of Carillon and Kindred Hospice for their care. The family suggests that donations in Thelma’s memory can be made to Lubbock’s Texas Boys Ranch or The Children’s Home of Lubbock.
