Thomas Wayne McCullar

Wayne McCullar, husband, father, grandfather, and dirt track racing enthusiast, peacefully passed away on February 20, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, friendship, and love for life in the fast lane. He would have celebrated his 79th birthday on March 8th.

Wayne proudly served as a machinist in the U.S. Navy before building a career in the trade he mastered. He owned his own machining business, McCullar Machine in Lubbock, putting his craftsmanship and expertise to work. In his later years, he retired from Scott Manufacturing. Wayne also greatly enjoyed playing pool, poker, and dominos, often challenging coworkers to domino games at work (as long as no one “pencil whipped” him). His competitive spirit and quick wit made every match memorable

Known to his racing buddies as "Bucket Head," Wayne's love for dirt track racing was more than just a hobby—it was a lifelong passion that fueled his spirit. Whether in the driver’s seat of his thunder bomber or down in the pits calling the shots, he lived for the thrill of the race. His closest racing friends—Big Steve, Bubba, Danny, and Billy—shared countless memories at the track, where the bonds of friendship were as strong as the engines they loved.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Denise, his two daughters, Angeline (Cord) Wood and Alicia (Jeremy) Barcomb, five adoring grandchildren, Carter, Caitlyn, Caden, Kai, and John Wayne, brother, Cecil (Carol) McCullar, and many nieces and nephews who will forever cherish the memories and lessons he left behind. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, John and Alma, his brothers, W.L. and James, and his sisters, Thelma and Ruth.

His presence, stern guidance, and ever evolving stories will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations in Wayne’s honor to the Texas Heart Institute.

A celebration of life for Thomas will be held Saturday, March 15, 2025 from 1:00 PM Resthaven Funeral Home & Cemetery, 5740 West 19th Street, Lubbock, TX 79407.
