Wanda Jennings Martin

She graduated as valedictorian from Wylie High School in 1945. She headed to Lubbock where she became a member of Las Chapparitas Social Club, which later affiliated with the national sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma. She was a member of the Delta Psi chapter at Texas Tech. She also met the love of her life, Byron Martin, while at Tech, and they were married on Augusts 24, 1947.

She was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where she was involved in many aspects of the church’s life, including serving as an elder and being a member of the Ollie Baucom Ladies Circle.

Wanda was a nurturer to everyone she met, but most especially to her children and grandchildren, who affectionately called her Gan or Ganny. She loved gardening, played bridge, had a great sense of humor and her home was always beautifully decorated for every occasion and season. Family gatherings were her favorite things.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother and sister-in-law, John and Mary Jennings; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, C.B. and Conny Martin; brother-in-law O.R. Van Ness; and son-in-law Terry (LeAnn) Grantham.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Byron; their children, Robin (Mark) Thomas of Midland, Lane Martin and LeAnn Grantham of Lubbock; grandchildren, Amber (Troy) Robertson and Haley (Mason) Manulik of Fort Worth, Dustin (Jennifer) Martin of Lubbock, Bryan(Kalli) Martin of Floydada, Cole Grantham and Cason Grantham of Lubbock, Corbin Grantham of Dallas, Laura (Chance) Justice of Austin, and Jeffrey (Brittany) Thomas of Midland; great-grandchildren: Will and Ellie Robertson, Mollie, Spencer and Mary Alice Manulik, Reina and Arly Martin, Mackenzie Martin, Emme and Halle Justice and Brooke and Sam Thomas; sister-in-law, Betty Van Ness; and 7 nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, June 1, 2018 at Resthaven Funeral Home.

Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 2, 2018 at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church on Saturday, June 2, 2018.
