

He served in World War II in the Pacific Theater and was awarded the American Theater Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign with 4 Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, and Victory Ribbon. He also served in the Korean War, where he was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars.
After the war ended he returned to Lubbock. He owned and operated the Shamrock Service Station in New Deal, TX for over 30 years. He married Estelle Miller and together they had 4 children. In 1960 he married Lois Jenkins. They had been married 56 years at the time of Wayne’s passing.
He was a member of the Lion’s Club, Farm Bureau and volunteered at Meals on Wheels for 15 years. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. He enjoyed traveling, working jig-saw puzzles, watching sports and going for walks. He was greatly loved by his family and he will be missed.
Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, 2 sisters and his son, Lester Owen. He is survived by his wife, Lois Owen of Lubbock, TX; 4 children, Gladys, Shirley and Gary Owen of Lubbock, TX and Janis Gonzales of Bandera, TX; 5 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; brother, Bobby Owen and sister, Della Crowder.
