Mary Ladner Strahan

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 29, 2012 at Olive Baptist Church, Lumberton for Mrs. Mary Ladner Strahan, 96, of Lumberton, Mississippi who died Tuesday June 26, 2012 at her residence. Brother Joe Beach and Brother Brad Miles will officiate at the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

A lifelong resident of Pearl River County, she was a dedicated homemaker known for her generous hospitality, a faithful member of Olive Baptist Church, and honored as Pearl River County “Citizen of the Year” and a Misssisippi State PTA “Volunteer of the Year”.

Mrs. Strahan is preceded in death by her parents, Jeremiah J. and Hattie Tyner Ladner; her husband, Marvin Strahan; five brothers, Ted Ladner, Ezra Ladner, Preston Ladner, N.W. Ladner, and J.E. Ladner; three sisters, Essie Barrett, Margarite Davis, and Hattie Starnes; three grandchildren, Douglas Strahan, Mitchell Strahan, and Kenneth Wayne “Kenny” Morris, Jr.; and one great grandson, Tab Morgan.

Survivors include two sons, Marvin Dwight (Kathy) Strahan and Larry Lavert (Nancy) Strahan; three daughters, Cora (the late Wayne) Morris, Alene (the late J.C.) Brown, and Ilene (Bill) Davis; two sisters, Johnnie B. Dubose and Alene Ladner; thirteen grandchildren, thirty eight great grandchildren, and four great great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Thursday, June 28, 2012 at Olive Baptist Church, 30 Olive Church Road, Lumberton, Mississippi 39455.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to the Olive Baptist Church Building Fund.
