
Ruth was a life long resident of Robeson County and a member of Regan United Methodist Church. She found her true passion later in her life as an assistant reading teacher at Smith Elementary School.
She was active in the Methodist Church, and served as district president for the United Methodist Women and chairperson of the Robeson County Church and Community Center’s board of directors.
She enjoyed the last seven years of her life surrounded by the wonderful nurses and staff at Glen Flora Assisted Living and Rehabilitation Center. Ruth volunteered as the chairperson of Glen Flora’s Elder Council and led a Bible study book club there.
Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Musselwhite; parents, Nash Adams and Mary Young Mercer; sisters Elizabeth Randall and Mary Lois Baxley; and brothers James, N.A., Edwin and David Mercer.
Ruth is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Robyn Musselwhite; daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Marty Shannon; son, Jim Musselwhite; grandchildren, Brian, Michelle, Kristina, Nash, Christopher, Cheryl, Kate, Lindsay and Dylan; great-grandchildren, Carly, Spenser, Harlan, Hinton and Lexi; brothers, Charles, Robert and Eugene Mercer; and many adored nieces, nephews and close friends.
A service will be held to celebrate Ruth’s life at Regan United Methodist Church on Friday, Aug. 30, at 2 p.m. The family will receive visitors afterward in the church fellowship hall.
