Mary Guy

Mary Virginia Harward Guy, 89, died on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at Southeastern Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. Mary Virginia gained a new family in the Wesley Pines Retirement Community.

She lived her childhood in Oakboro, North Carolina and was the youngest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Grover R. Harward. She graduated from Lenoir Rhyne College.

Mrs. Guy married David N. Guy in 1947 and moved to Lumberton in the early 50’s. The majority of her career was teaching Business Education at Lumberton High School.

Her organizations included many Bridge Clubs, Lumbee Study Club, and the Colonel Thomas Chapter of DAR, Gamma Gamma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, and a Charter Member of the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David Nicholson Guy; brother, Frank Harward; sister, Doris Courtney; and daughter, Pam Guy.

Leaving to cherish her memories are son, David Nicholson Guy, Jr. and wife Susan of Fayetteville; grandchildren, David Nicholson Guy III and Mitchell Culbreth Guy; nieces, Susan H. Barwell and Antoinette Guy; and nephews, Henry Courtney and Grover Courtney.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at the Ruby Doub McMillan Fellowship Center at Wesley Pines, 1000 Wesley Pines Road, Lumberton, NC 28358.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 1, 2012 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Volley Hanson officiating.

She will be laid to rest in Oakboro Cemetery, Oakboro, North Carolina at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 2012.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church 202 West 24th Street, Lumberton, NC 28358
