Adelia Elizabeth Barbour. 93, of Roanoke passed away Sunday, September 20, 2020 at her residence. She was the wife of James Walter Barbour for 31 years until his death. Born October 31, 1926 in Roanoke she was the daughter of Harry and Blanche Johnson, Sr. Their family was recognized as one of the Families of the Year in October of 1984, just two months prior to losing her husband James. They were foster parents for Roanoke City Social Services, and Depaul’s for 36 years together and she continued being a foster parent for another 18 years following her husband’s death, retiring at the age of 74. That makes for a total of 54 years of foster parenting. Adelia also made ceramics and collected porcelain dolls, lead crystal, angels, and music boxes. Her many loves were turnips and chocolate, bingo, bluegrass, Gospel and country music. She loved to hear her daughter play her violin or sing solo’s or to sing with her deceased brother Jeffery Andrews at Roanoke Avenue Baptist Church. She is survived by one daughter, Maria Barbour Keesee and her husband David, a foster daughter, Lona Lawson Floyd, one foster son, Steven Bradbury; two grandsons, one grandson-in-law, four foster grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 11 foster great-grandchildren, two great- great granddaughters; one brother and one sister.
