He is survived by his spouse Yvonne Axiotis of Lynchburg and other family members in Massachusetts.
Without a formal education, Alex taught himself to play the harmonica. He had the privilege of joining the famous “Johnny Puleo’s Harmonica Rascals” in the Sixties where they entertained in Las Vegas and opened for the Ed Sullivan Show. He loved an audience and took pleasure in sharing his talent and music, such as performing at the Annual Jewish Food Fair, the Greek Festival of Roanoke, the Williams Home, weddings, birthday parties, office parties, and country clubs. Even at the grocery store he would pull out a ‘harp’ and play a tune to the delight of young and old.
This friendly fun filled fellow also loved to cook for friends making his Greek dishes including Baklava! Alex, you will be missed.
In honor of him a memorial service will be held Saturday, September 6, 2014, at 2 pm at the Faith Alliance Church at 7808 Timberlake Road, Lynchburg, VA 24502. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Faith Alliance Church or Gentle Shepherd Hospice.
