Born in Lynchburg, April 6, 1930 he was the son of the late Benjamin Franklin Burks, Sr. and Rachel Michael Burks. He was retired from Montague-Betts Corp. a US Army veteran of the Korean conflict and was a long time member of Timberlake Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and was affectionately known as Papa by his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Ben R. Burks and his wife Wendy of Rockford, IL, and Dennis W. Burks and his wife Dawn of Lynchburg; one daughter Diane B. Welling and her husband Phil of Lynchburg; one brother, William E. Burks of Lynchburg; two sisters, Doris B. Lindsay of Gladys and Lorraine B. Gunter of Irongate; six grandchildren, Mark Hudson and wife Betsy, Erica Ricketts and husband Joey, Colby Slaney, Joshua Burks and wife Cara, Caleb Burks and Hannah Burks and one great granddaughter, Mikayla Hudson.
A service celebrating his life will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at Timberlake Baptist Church with Pastor Larry Brodie officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 5:30 until service time.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
