Born in Boston, Massachusetts, on January 1, 1956, he was the son of the late Ernest M. Laslie and Trudy McIntyre Laslie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy Laslie.
Dan was a man of unwavering Christian faith whose life was a testimony to his love for the Lord. His devotion to Christ was evident in the way he lived, served, and loved others. A faithful and dedicated member of Redeeming Grace Baptist Church, he found great joy in worship, fellowship, and sharing his faith. His church family was deeply important to him, and he leaves behind a lasting spiritual legacy through his service and witness.
Above all, Dan cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who led by example with kindness, humility, and steadfast love. His greatest pride was not only in the family he built, but in the faith he instilled in them, pointing each generation toward Christ.
He was the founder of Laslie Auto Body, where he built more than a business—he built relationships and a reputation grounded in integrity and hard work. Outside of his work, Dan was an avid outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and long-distance running. He was also proud of his accomplishments as a pilot, but none of these compared to the joy he found in his faith, his church, and his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Ruth Anne Laslie; one daughter, Dee Laslie Buchanan (Paul); one son, Joseph Daniel Laslie (Susan); nine grandchildren, Cody Beckner, Trey Laslie (Rosie), Mady Buchanan (Hunter), Ciara Laslie, Brooke-Lynne Buchanan, Joey Laslie, Jr., Peyton Buchanan, Cambo Buchanan, and Bella Laslie; six great-grandchildren, Clay Beckner, Ellie Beckner, Tatum Beckner, Chase Beckner, Luca Laslie, and Julian Laslie; his sister, Judy Bankowski and her children, Dawn Marie and Trudianne; his brother, Kevin Laslie (Marzena) and their children, Kandyce, Cassie, and Alexa; his brothers-in-law, Peter Winson and daughters Sarah and Melissa and Ray Winson (Jenny) and their son, Matt and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A service celebrating Dan’s life and steadfast faith will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Redeeming Grace Baptist Church, with Dr. Michael O’Brien officiating.
Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider Redeeming Grace Baptist Church, 3630 Old Forest Road, Lynchburg, VA 24501.
