Born on June 8, 1954 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Thomas Edward Abbott and the late Lilly Louise Reid Abbott. After high school, he went to work at R.R. Donnelley for 23 years before he started his own business. David finished his career at Lawhorne Brothers Paving Company.
He was a dedicated husband, loving father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Abbott; daughters, Tonya Fortune and husband Trip of Evington, Alison Abbott and Jose of Costa Rica, and Sarah Abbott and fiancé Michael of Radford; step-daughter, Britney Baker and Dave of Lynchburg; granddaughters, Summer Fortune, Skylar Fortune, Ava Grace Colombari-Abbott, and Raelynn Sprouse; grandsons, Spencer Wilder and Stephen Baker; his brothers, Tommy Abbott and wife Becky of Lynchburg and Reid Abbott and wife Shirley of Goode; his sister, Jenny White of Lynchburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Dave Roberts officiating. Following the service the family will receive friends in the fellowship hall.
